Public Transportation - HERE HERE!

It is hard to resist repeating and reposting Robert Reich's clear call for a ground-up new public transportation system on Marketplace last week. Just how long do we think we can really keep this nation going without one?

Baby Got Bite

Blue Whale
There were so many things I could write about my first trip to Disneyland - or as caption for this pic. Like many things lately, it was a place I never wanted to end up and it was smaller than I imagined it would be. Tellingly, I ended up loving the Haunted Mansion. And I discovered my new favorite 80's video installation - the totally inane Star Tours. I am stuggling to understand why people travel from all over the world to partake in over-branded fun, but I guess once bitten...

Great news today from Greece of the first same sex marriage on the beautiful island of Tilos. The NYT story hits the basics, but check out this Flickr site with lovely images of Tilos.

Green Hate

Img_0257

I returned from Park City with a little illness swag, and had to hit the Wes Cyed Kaiser a few hours after landing back in LA. My driver-cum-witness for the trip was the ever sneaky Brian Crano. I had no idea he was snapping pix as I had a throw down with my funny doctor. The MD resisted handing over the meds until I made it clear the stuff coming out was Green, not yellow. And he actually replied 'I don't like green.' And shortly I was on my way out with the goods. I snapped a few detail pix of cabinets (best left unopened) for your viewing pleasure.

Park City Poster Wars

Img_0240

Park City poster wars require you to constantly patrol Main Street postering & re-postering -- endlessly doing battle with the studio publicity engines who have teams hell bent on annoying you into submission. I did my best today until I ran out of staples and was forced to retreat and regroup. Tomorrow I will be back - restocked and ready to represent!

Today was the first screening of Softly. The screening was sold out and got great responses from the audience. I spoke with many people who loved the film, the music, the cinematography, and the multitude of sets. So it was a great day!

Before the Softly screening I headed to the Queer Lounge to attend a Savage Grace panel discussion with Tom Kalin, Eddie Redmayne, Christine Vachon, Howard Rodman, and Katie Roumel. The discussion was interesting, and clips lovely, and the panel very well spoken.

And here is the new Photo Album of Slamdance pix!

Off to Slamdance!

Off to Slamdance!

Yesterday I headed off to Park City for the Slamdance Film Festival. Softly will be screening twice so there is still time for you to come join the madness! Swag! Famous people! No? Ok, then I will do my best to keep you posted over the next nine days. Now you do your part and spike my ratings on IMDB.com.

Double Trouble

Wintertimeboyz

Albert & Bryan and Cameron & Eitan went on two separate hiking trips thru Yosemite and snapped some great pix of themselves frolicking in the winter scene. Now since they are all brats, which couple is which?

Oyama on my mind

I woke up this morning with Oyama on my mind. I had a lovely day trip there back in October with a terribly handsome and charming guide. (yes, i was hoarding the pix) We talked and walked, hiking up the side of the mountain while unfurling ideas about love and life and what we hope the future might bring. It was a beautiful day, filled with gorgeous views -the trees, streams of clear cold water, temples, shrines, and best of all - my host. That night we returned to Isehara and had an unforgettable meal at a Tofu house. I want to climb back in bed now and nap dreaming about it all over again.

XAL <-

Lax01

Lax02

I love the FlyAway bus that runs directly from LAX to Westwood. For $4 you can't beat it for fast, comfortable transportation. Just sit back relax and soon you are home. Sometimes I want to smack inane girls talking loudly on their phones, but the FlyAway still beats the criminally slow Culver City 6, or any of the extortion vans that prowl the terminals for victims.

Drag Surveillance

Crime_scene_2

On the last night of my trip to Kansas I hit the streets of Kansas City and did some podcast recording in Westport with Thad and Heath. Nothing could have prepared me for the evenings encore - we ended up at Missie B's. Thad escaped this near drag experience with the excuse of wife and child awaiting his return.

Heath and I witnessed unspeakable acts - mostly deflated ones. The strange highlights include the drag show surveillance playing out on cheap flat screen tv's. The color and signal kept flickering in and out, which revealed the drag show (going on in the same room) as the crime scene that it truly was.

Upstairs there was no relief for our ears and eyes, as unlikely contestants had been drafted into some sort of competition. We couldn't figure out the point exactly and the MC was barely able to muster a groan from the audience. Any remaining blood drained out later when the formerly attractive-enough victims were paraded in adult diapers. It was borderline moment - it could have gone several directions.

During a dance break, a cluster of drunken trampy boys attempted to out-slut each other - on the same pole at the same time. No matter how hard they did the bump and grind, I couldn't get the image of the earlier leather-faced-cowboy-cum-lord-of-the-dance who had made that pole truly his own.

Please check out more pix of the crime scene!

A Box in Kansas

Scientific_atlanta

While back home, I started digging through many of the notorious 'in a box in Kansas' boxes. Many, many treasures were rediscovered, and the best boxes just-kept-on-giving all the way to the bottom. Others were angst filled and depressing archives of faces and places past, and I am happy to say they have finally been dispatched. Exactly why some things were saved I really couldn't say, but the crown gem of total-uselessness was the hot box pictured above. I was going to feature pix of my brown calculator from 8th grade, but Heath demanded the Scientific Atlanta Cable Box with Fine Tuning wheel. So now he finally got something he wanted for Xmas.
