Oh, The People I've Slept With...

Pushy

Thursday night I stopped by the set of The People I've Slept With to check in on all my peeps -both above and below the line. It was inspiring to see them all working so diligently despite the heat. Oh, and Quyen is shooting on the Red - I can't wait to see footage!

Here are a few more pix from the shoot!

And a few pix from the wrap party!

MadameBonjour JohnJ: Impresario, Provocateur

MadameBonjour JohnJ
Today I have been photo editing pix shot at JUICY in Tokyo - actually from both trips to Japan last fall. Above is the provocateur MadameBonjour JohnJ. I know this is obvious, but I love that surprising feeling when you dig out pix and they rush you back a moment, a day, a month from something that seemed like a lifetime ago. Suddenly I am back in Tokyo and it is 3am. Sigh.

Especially Cheap

The long lost 'Especially Cheap' video rears its ugly head - sadly sans web porn gifs. Sorry about that. I am dreaming of reshooting it with adult-sized drag queens sipping cocktails in a bar. And I challenge you all to shoot your own versions with the same audio! Dr. Skinny Words has already dreamed up his characters. Now can he deliver on the dream?

Four Letter Word

Casper_andreas

I hit the opening weekend of Four Letter Word and chatted with director Casper Andreas. When we first met in Park City back in January I was struck by his clear understanding of what it is he is doing. I remain impressed that he has made two very low budget features that have made it into theaters and into pop gay consciousness with seeming ease. His new film got a warm response by the audience, and I found myself mostly agreeing with the New York Times review. Sadly, I missed the after party at Here.

It takes a Fox(y)/Mann Village

Img_0548

Since my favorite Westwood movie theater, The National, has been torn down -oh, even typing that I still feel it like a gut punch - I feel it is time to transfer my attention to my number two favorite, The Village. It is the oldest theater in Westwood, and still the biggest. Despite the tacky carpet and gold-adjacent paint on the plaster details, I still love it! Oh, and I highly recommend the front row center in the balcony.

Fashion Victim

Yes, it was just another average day - I spent Thursday working on Brian Crano's new satire on bad short film called 'Official Selection.' Chilling with the peeps was great, despite the dust.

K-Town with QL

K_town_ql

Just like it sounds, I hit the streets of K-Town with Quentin for some Tofu Hot Pot and a chance to catch-up on all the news. I gave the Park City update, and Quentin gave me the low down on his feature that is about to go into pre-production. It was a nice mellow night. While the food was tasty, the decor was as dicey as the neighborhood - with the same dirty charm.

Screening Softly

Img_0311

Today was the last screening of Softly at the Slamdance Film Festival. Everything went very well: the projection, color, and sound was great. And the audience really loved it. Even the Q&A, led by Shorts Programmer Paul Sbrizzi, was great.

Afterwards I had brunch with the filmmakers from 'No Air House' at the Morning Ray Cafe in the Treasure Mountain Inn. They have the best food at the best prices we have found anywhere in Park City.

Later of course I ended up at the Queer Lounge sponsored by GLAAD. They offer a nice spot to chill between events, and a chance to grab a coffee or a cocktail depending on your mood. The free wi-fi is a bonus perk. Throughout the Sundance/Slamdance Festivals the Queer Lounge has been running a great promo for films at both festivals, and the Softly clips look great on the numerous flat screens.

Rock the Vote

Softly02

Okay people, it's time to rock the Slamdance Vote! I mean, look at that lonely face! He needs to feel the love. Hit this Softly link and leave a ranking for the film.

Park City Poster Wars

Img_0240

Park City poster wars require you to constantly patrol Main Street postering & re-postering -- endlessly doing battle with the studio publicity engines who have teams hell bent on annoying you into submission. I did my best today until I ran out of staples and was forced to retreat and regroup. Tomorrow I will be back - restocked and ready to represent!

Today was the first screening of Softly. The screening was sold out and got great responses from the audience. I spoke with many people who loved the film, the music, the cinematography, and the multitude of sets. So it was a great day!

Before the Softly screening I headed to the Queer Lounge to attend a Savage Grace panel discussion with Tom Kalin, Eddie Redmayne, Christine Vachon, Howard Rodman, and Katie Roumel. The discussion was interesting, and clips lovely, and the panel very well spoken.

And here is the new Photo Album of Slamdance pix!

Slamdance Me Softly

Slamdance

Yes that's right! Softly has been selected to screen at the Slamdance Film Festival! In case you need me to openly brag, the festival selected under a hundred films from over 3,500 submissions. The launch/announcement party featured a glowing Jägermeister ice sculpture—a boozy beacon in the pitch dark of Jimmy's Lounge in Hollywood. Quentin joined up for cocktails to celebrate. The Slamdance extended family is warm and lively and I am really looking forward to Park City in January. I can't believe I am going to Utah on purpose.

Quyen is in Iowa for the month, shooting her first feature! The steady stream of pix flowing from her iPhone has been excellent. Check out her antics.
